The reasons are easy, you’re busy! You’re going to school or raising kids or working two jobs or all the above! So if you’re one of those people that every year makes a resolution and eventually gives up on it, don’t worry, sadly you’re not alone.

We’ve compiled a list of reasons to help you to keep your new years resolutions, especially when it comes to fitness. Some of these will be quick points, others will be more in-depth product reviews.
1. Buy a Fitness Tracker
Actually seeing the results of your day’s work makes such a difference. Being able to see how many steps you took can challenge you to do even more steps the next day. This is the absolute best investment when trying to track your progress.
We recommend the Fitbit Charge 3 Fitness Activity because it’s affordable, comfortable and gives you a wide range of fitness information.

2. Avoid Office Treats
I don’t know about you, but our office kitchen is filled with unhealthy food – brownies, cookies, chocolates. Just say no!
3. Don’t Buy Bigger Sizes
This is a good one. Basically, it’s important to stay uncomfortable in your current clothes. The minute you start buying bigger sizes, the more comfortable you feel and the less motivated you are to get back in shape.
4. Walk at Lunch
This is another office tip, but use your lunch wisely. Don’t just get up from your office chair, walk to the kitchen and sit in the office kitchen until lunch is over. Quickly eat your healthy lunch and then change your shoes and go outside. Imagine 30 minutes a day of walking, it does wonders to clear your mind and gets you fit.
5. Water Can Never Leave Your Side
If you always have a bottle of water next to you, you won’t buy sugary drinks and your stomach will feel more full.
6. Stop Eating While Doing Things
We have been conditioned to always be eating, to always have food by our sides. You don’t have to eat while you watch TV, for example. If you are hungry, have a healthy snack.
7. Have Fun Failing
If you try lots, you will fail lots. If you don’t try, you won’t fail as much but what fun is that? You only live once so try, try, try and don’t get down on yourself if you have a bad day, if you miss a workout, if you eat a donut. It’s just a bad day.
8. Reduce Clutter
If you’re surrounded by a messy house or even a messy office, you will be less inclined to work out. Clutter often means you’re overwhelmed so try to reduce your clutter and free your mind to exercise.
9. Don’t Share Your Resolution With Toxic People
Conventional wisdom is to look to your friends and family for support, but if you have toxic people in your life, it’s alright to keep your new years resolution to yourself. It’s better to have this as your secret then to share with people who won’t support you.
10. Find The Right Gym For You
If you plan on going to a gym, make sure to research it. Every gym has its own culture. If you’re female and feel more comfortable with a women’s only gym, there are tons out there.
11. Be A Role Model
Being fit and healthy is often passed down. When you eat healthier, so do you children. Your parents, your co-workers, your children, all the people in your life are influenced by your food choices, so remember how you look and what you eat, influences many.
12. Look At Yourself Naked
This may be the hardest tip but it’s important to do. This is your body, every part of it. Really look at what you look like and make a goal to improve it. It’s too easy to change in the dark, to not look in the mirror and pretend you’re healthier than you are. Sticking to your fitness goals means confronting the harsh reality.
13. Park Far Away
When you’re shopping look for a far parking spot instead of a closer one. Those extra steps do make a difference. If it’s in the middle of winter and freezing, then we understand parking close!
14. Enjoy some podcasts
There are thousands and thousands of podcasts out there and the podcast app comes with almost every phone so it’s so easy to use. By finding a podcast you enjoy, it helps the time pass and you may even look forward to the gym so you can catch up on your favorite podcasts.
A couple of podcasts we recommend:
Fitness and Sports: The Jillians Michaels Show, View from the Penalty Box (Classic Hockey Stories)
Nutrition: Mastering Nutrition
Finance: Suze Orman
Earphone recommendation for the best podcast sound quality: Wireless Earbuds Bluetooth Headphones
There truly are tons out there, just look!
15. No Excuses…especially in the winter
For a few months, the weather will be awful. No excuses, just go to the gym or stay home and do some exercises in the comfort of your home. There’s always the opportunity to do something.
16. Just Move
Similar to no excuses, but the bare minimum you can do is just move. The absolute worst thing you can do for your heart, metabolism and emotions is to just sit there. If you’re at work, take the stairs instead of the elevator.
17. Stop Comparing Yourself
Everyone takes a different path to success. Everyone has a life filled with positives and negatives. Maybe you aren’t in as great shape as the person next to you, but I bet your life is filled with many great things. Focus on you and make your own grass greener.
18. People Aren’t Judging You
It’s really pointless to feel self conscious about your body because everyone is too worried about their own issues and their own body to worry about yours. The key to life is everyone is self conscious so if you act confidently, you’ve won the battle. Chin up!

20. Stay Positive
We mentioned keeping toxic people out of your life, but also keep toxic news out of your life too. Keep your world filled with positivity so that may mean limiting or cutting off watching the news. If you can’t bear to stop watching the news, here’s a tip: Mute the parts that are exploitative or negative. Same goes with social media, be careful how much time you spend on it and who you follow.
21. Music Fuels Motivation
Ever hear that one song that gets your heart beat up, puts a smile on your face and makes you want to dance? All from a song. Make a playlist and put high tempo music on it.
22. Social Media Can Be Great
There are lots of fitness related support groups on Facebook to join, just search them out. Instagram is a visual social media so there are tons and tons of accounts to follow, but don’t just follow people that brag and flaunt their bodies. Look for those that are motivating, helpful and relatable.
